Christian Rocca, su Camillo, segnala quest’editoriale del Wall Street Journal in cui sono elencati tutti quelli che quest’anno, pur avendone i requisiti, non hanno vinto il premio Nobel per la Pace.
La lista - come potete leggere dall’articolo - è bella corposa e comprende: i monaci buddisti birmani («whose defiance against, and brutalization at the hands of, the country’s military junta» ); Morgan Tsvangirai, Arthur Mutambara e gli altri leader dell’opposizione nello Zimbabwe («who were arrested and in some cases beaten by police earlier this year while protesting peacefully against dictator Robert Mugabe» ) ; Padre Nguyen Van Ly, incarcerato quest’anno in Vietnam «and sentenced to eight years in prison for helping the pro-democracy group Block 8406» e molti altri ancora, tra cui Garry Kasparov «and the several hundred Russians who were arrested in April, and are continually harassed, for resisting President Vladimir Putin’s slide toward authoritarian rule», i presidenti di Ucraina e Georgia, Viktor Yushchenko e Mikhail Saakashvili, che - «despite the efforts of the Kremlin to undermine their young states» - cercano di resistere alla politica autoritaria di Putin «showed that democracy can put down deep roots in Russia’s backyard». E, ancora: i blogger cinesi («who run the risk of arrest by trying to bring uncensored information to their countrymen» ), il popolo iracheno («who bravely work to rebuild and reunite their country amid constant threats to themselves and their families from terrorists» ) e i libanesi vittime della strategia del terrore della Siria.
«Let us hope - conclude, sarcastico, il WSJ - they survive the coming year so that the Nobel Prize Committee might consider them for the 2008 award». Lo spero anch’io.
