«I know literally hundreds of people who have turned their lives around thanks to a religious conversion. I know men and women who have become faithful spouses, overcome inveterate vices, and learned to become responsible citizens thanks to a discovery of God in their lives. How many people do you know that have overcome alcoholism or pornographic addictions, stopped cheating on their spouses, or become more concerned and dedicated parents because they discovered atheism? It simply doesn’t happen. Atheism offers no incentive to become better or less selfish.»

«L’ateismo [...] non è un risultato, e tanto meno un avvenimento – come tale non lo conosco: io lo intendo per istinto. Sono troppo curioso, troppo problematico, troppo tracotante, perché possa piacermi una risposta grossolana. Dio è una risposta grossolana, un’indelicatezza verso noi pensatori. In fondo è solo un grossolano divieto che ci vien fatto: non dovete pensare!»
